Bio

My name is Rachel Turman, and I am running for Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4, in the Elgin area.

Let me begin by sharing a little about myself and my background. I’m a native Texan, a mother of two grown children, and a graduate of the UT College of Communications. I have worked in the media industry for 30 years. Most of my professional experience has been in systems support, training, and operations, where I’ve supported people, projects and implementations of all sorts.

In recent years, I transitioned to the accounting side of the business. Today, I help manage the A/R for a global digital marketing technology company, overseeing a multi-million dollar portfolio of accounts. My work has always required an attention to detail & strong organizational skills. My experience has made me an effective problem-solver—someone who listens carefully, evaluates facts & details, and works toward practical solutions.

This is my first time running for public office. When I was asked to consider running, I was surprised by how easily I said yes. But that yes felt empowering. It gave direction to something inside me—an energy and a frustration that didn't have a place to go. When the opportunity to serve the community presented itself, it felt like the right thing to do. In these times, it feels important to shift focus to the community, to be more plugged in to what's happening.

A 2nd reason I said yes: Voters deserve a choice on the ballot, a reason to participate. When I stepped forward, I created that choice. Democracy really can't live up to its promise unless people participate in the process.

A 3rd reason I said yes: I want others in my community to look at me and think, why not me? I can run for local office. I can support my community. I can say 'yes'.

If elected, I am committed to being an official who is worthy of the community’s trust. I will approach the work with fairness, integrity, and respect for the law. I believe in the core democratic principles of equality and justice. I believe in a fair society where everyone’s rights are respected.

As Justice of the Peace, my goal will be simple but important: to serve this community with fairness, accountability, and respect.
